President Obama’s State Visit to U.K. is Scheduled for May 24-26

Just wondering what they’ll pack this time?

Front & Center again, Buckingham Palace

Obama and the iPod

It has been just over two years since President Barack Obama’s first and last State Visit to the United Kingdom when, according to The Telegraph, he gave the Queen the gift of an iPod with some great Broadway show tunes and footage of her own 2007 trip to the United States already downloaded. Also included was a rare, signed 1951 Richard Rodgers and Lorenz Hart songbook. A fun gift that apparently took the Queen’s fancy.

Perhaps President Obama will be returning now with an iPad2 and a birthday present for Prince Philip, who will turn 90 years old just four weeks after the State Visit? Something pink for Prime Minister David Cameron’s new baby girl? There will be some catching up to do, for the last time the Obamas visited London, it was in the company of Prime Minister Gordon Brown that they posed outside 10 Downing Street during the G20 summit.

HRH Queen Elizabeth II and the Silver Framed Photograph

The gift exchange was closely watched, The Wall Street Journal reported, “Ever since the British press took high exception to the modest presents the Obamas gave Gordon Brown and wife on their visit to the White House last month: a box set of DVDs, allegedly in the wrong format, and a couple of models of Marine One for the Brown boy,” all eyes will be on what the Obamas produce this time. As for Queen Elizabeth II, the gift was a standard silver framed, signed photograph of the monarch and Prince Philip. What will the Queen produce on this occasion?

How to Get Inside Buckingham Palace the Easy Way

You may recall in July 1982, a Buckingham Palace intruder reached Queen Elizabeth’s bedroom, where he sat on her bed barefoot wearing a T-shirt,

asked her for a cigarette and chatted with her for 10 minutes before security finally arrived. It is no surprise that security has since been tightened -

this is surely not the recommended route of entry nor a comfortable way to exit!
